Cultural context
Sculpted by Jérôme Duquesnoy in 1619, the statue has been dressed in over 1,000 official costumes donated by countries and associations — many displayed at the GardeRobe MannekenPis museum nearby. The Brussels folklore around him includes legends of a brave boy who saved the city.
